Delta Gamma Initiates 56 New Members- Spring 2010
Epsilon Zeta chapter is excited to announce that we have initiated 56 lovely new ladies into our chapter, and could not be more thrilled! Their New Member Pursuit was guided through the care of our VP Member Education Carly Johnson and Director of New Members Ali Gabrielli, who did an excellent job in teaching our new members all that it means to be a Delta Gamma. This year our Presents brunch was planned by Director of Activities Mary McGuire and took place at the Marina Del Rey Hotel in a ball room overlooking the marina. It was a beautiful day for all in attendance, and was topped off with delicious food and great company. Later that evening, the Presents dance, planned by our Director of Special Events Katie Turner, was held at Samba Brazilian Steakhouse in Redondo Beach. All of the DGs, as well as their dates, had a great time and danced the night away. We are looking forward to furthering our newly initiated member’s welcome into our great bonds of sisterhood!

Our chapter is so proud to be the official winners of Greek Week 2009! After a series of events including a football tournament, scholar bowl, obstacle course, and lip sync competition, all the hard work and dedication the ladies of Epsilon Zeta put into for the week paid off! The proceeds of Greek Week will go towards the HOLA program in Los Angeles, offering educational and learning opportunities for underprivileged youth.9024_159488796586_522691586_33

Anchor Splash® 2009

Anchor Splash® 2009 was held on Loyola Marymount's campus September 13th. Aliza Vecchiarelli, director of Anchor Splash®, coordinated an afternoon of various organizations on campus competing in synchronized swimming. The routines were judged by Epsilon Zeta alums, and the first prize honor ultimately went to Sigma Phi Epsilon seniors for a routine based off the film "Mary Poppins." The amount raised will be announced sometime this week, all proceeds going to the The Blind Children’s Center in Los Angeles. We are so proud of the event and thanks everyone who participated and attended for supporting such a wonderful cause.

Presents 2009
This year, the pledge class of 2009 was presented at The Organic Panificio in Marina del Rey. Parents of the new members traveled from all over the United States to be present at the ceremony and brunch held in the morning. Later that evening, the formal event was held at the same venue. Both portions of the day were great time for all involved and a wonderful way to welcome our soon-to-be Delta Gammas to the chapter.pledges

Delta Gamma Fall 08 Formal
Delta Gamma's fall formal was on November 14 at Samba, a Brazilian style restaurant with a lounge atmosphere in Redondo Beach. About 100 girls came to formal and were surprised with limo buses that provided for dancing on the way to the venue! Thank you to Kelly Loretta for organizing such a wonderful event!

Delta Gamma Open House
Delta Gamma's Open House occurred on November 18 from 7-9 at The Hill. Girls considering sorority recruitment in the spring attended to get a chance to know the DG ladies a little bit better! Lemonade and cookies were passed out as girls talked and got to know Delta Gamma's philanthrophy, events, and active members. A video was also shown to demonstrate the sisterhood of the sorority. The event was so successful a second Open House has been scheduled for December 3rd in front of Pizza Del Rey!

Alumni Brunch

Alumni Brunch was held on Saturday, November 8th at 9:30 AM on Hannon Field. About 70 active DGs attended the event to honor fellow alumni Delta Gammas, acknowledge the significant role they had in building the Epsilon Zeta chapter, and appreciate their continued influence to inspire us to succeed! The alumni present were Molly Paterno, Megan Sinnot, Leah Golden, Jacqueline Jimenez, Jenaya Hakeem and Vanessa Rojas. Thank you to Sofia Gutierrez for organizing a wonderful brunch!

BCC Car Wash

The BCC car wash organized by Brittany Laurel took place on Saturday, November 1st on the corner of Manchester and Rayford. Many supporters came out and got their dirty cars clean! Even with a minor disruption of rain, DG was able to raise $350!

Sisterhood EventOn Sunday, November 9th, 45 DGs went out to Sunset Ranch in the Hollywood Hills for the sisterhood event organized by Lindsay Chisam. Each girl got her own hourse, and to every 7 girls there was 1 guide. The views were great, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a lot of fun! Some girls even faced their fears of horseback riding and heights! It was a great event and a beautiful Sunday afternoon to be out with DG sisters.

Mock Party

On Thursday, October 23rd, Delta Gamma and Sigma Chi hosted a mock party for all students in St. Rob's Auditorium as a part of Alcohol Awareness Week. Reese Cuddy organized the event, which was to support S.A.D.D., or Students Against Drunk Driving. Their mission is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving and other destructive decisions.

The first hour was an actual party! People ate pizza, played root beer pong, danced to music, talked and chatted just like at a real party, except there was no alcohol. Pamphlets and posters were set up around the room with information about drinks and blood alcohol content for people to look at.

The second hour consisted of a speech and Q&A session with Lieutenant Colonel White, an LAPD Supervising Sergeant who agreed to help out. He is currently on military orders, but worked DUI for several years, and shared the incidents of drunk driving he has been witnessed. Also, Jill Sweetnam, an active Delta Gamma, shared her personal experience with being in an accident caused by a drunk driver. She showed a video of a friend she lost in the accident, Joel Davis. Thank you Jill for sharing your story, it was inspiring and emotional for everyone.

Introducing.....BRITTANY LAUREL!!!!!

Brittany Laurel 2DG or LMU achievements/position/involvement: in DG- VP Foundation! I am also in CLC, was a First Year Retreat leader, and am a Camp Counselor for Camp Ronald Mcdonald!

Future Goals: In the future I just hope to be happy! I am interested in doing post graduate service next year and hope to use my teaching degree to possibly teach in another country!  I basically picture myself traveling the world and gathering little children around wherever I go so I can teach them, ya know, kind of like Mother Goose.

Hobbies/Favorite things: I love spending time with my family, hanging out with my out of control friends, going to the Blind Children's Center, helping people & doing service, and eating really unhealthy foods. I also LOVE going to LMU, napping, megaphones, anchors & peace signs, being asian & being loud, and of course "doing good"!

Anything else you think would be fun/interesting to know!  I am a really picky eater, I get mistaken all time for being a fifteen year old, I love Hannah Montana (and I'm really good at singing her songs, just ask me), and I live with six of the craziest girls you've ever known you should be jealous.

GREEK WEEK 2008

Greek Week
This year's Greek Week was to benefit Mar Vista Family Center, a local organization in Culver City dedicated to giving low-income families a place to send their children to preschool and after-school programs.

Mar Vista Carnival
Greek Week started with a bang on Friday, September 26th with the Mar Vista Carnival on Hannon Field. Each sorority and fraternity set up booths filled with interactive activities and games for the children of Mar Vista to engage in. Delta Gamma's booth featured a dunk tank, a game of tossing balls into goldfish bowls to win fish, and a painted wooden boat with which to take silly pictures. DG also handed out cups of Goldfish crackers as a healthy snack. The carnival provided a great way to meet the children that would benefit from the proceeds of Greek Week!

Football- Congratulations DG Football Champions!
Greek Week football kicked off on Saturday, September 27th for Delta Gamma with a game against Kappa Alpha Theta. DG won 7-0, with an exciting touchdown made in the last few seconds. The games continued on Sunday, where DG played Alpha Phi in the semi-finals and won 14-12.
Delta Gamma had a rematch with Alpha Phi by the second game of the finals, and DG came out victorious with a score of 7-0 to be named Greek Week 2008 Football champions! Congratulations to all the girls on the team who practiced hard and played an amazingly classy weekend
of football!

Philanthropy Speaker
On Monday, September 29th, all sororities and fraternities went to Burns Back Court to hear several speakers from Mar Vista Family Center talk about their experiences working for and growing up at the center. The speakers provided insight in their struggles and explained how the center has helped them obtain valuable resources and skills they needed later on in life.

Scholar Bowl
Tuesday, September 30 was Scholar Bowl, where anything from random trivia to academic questions was asked. Megan Myers, Adrienne Wright, Nichole Shuer, and Jess Schmitt represented Delta Gamma and did a phenomenal job!

Donation Drive
A donation drive was held for Mar Vista to provide any supplies they might need. These included school supplies, DVDs, computer supplies, and art supplies. A money jar was also established, and each sorority and fraternity was encouraged to donate as much as possible. Congratulations Delta Gamma for donating the most money to the jar!

Best Greek Ever
Best Greek Ever was held during convo on Thursday, October 2. Each Greek had one representative from the sorority or fraternity to compete in a beauty pageant style competition.  Delta Gamma's
representative was Reese Cuddy, who was fantastic in her comedic gymnastic routine.

Lip Sync
Greek Week concluded with Lip Sync on Saturday, October 4 at Gersten Pavillion. Delta Gamma's lip sync theme was "Monopoly", and songs included "4 Minutes", "Push It", "Another Night, Another Dream", "Livin' on a Prayer", and "What a Feeling". Lip Sync featured Eric Romero as the DG Anchorman, and was choreographed by Erin Stover and Annie Verderame. DG placed 4th in Lip Sync, and 2nd overall for Greek Week! Congratulations to DG and all Greeks for a great week, and raising over $14,000 overall!

Anchor Splash® Week

The week preceding Anchor Splash® was filled with a variety of activities. Teams who wanted to receive extra points were encouraged to visit the Blind Children’s Center on Wednesday and meet the children they were helping. The El Torrito fundraiser dinner was also Wednesday. On Thursday, Dunk a DG was set up at convo to encourage ticket sales. Pre-sale tickets were $9, and came with free Anchor Splash® sunglasses.  Also, a new addition to the week, a night at Custom, raised $1500 in just one night!

BCC Visit

The BCC visit during Anchor Splash® Week lasted from 10:30-11:30am, where teams were offered 75 points for every person who came and played with the children during recess. The kids had so much fun and loved getting to see new faces!

BCC Speaker

A special highlight of Anchor Splash® week was a graduate from the BCC who came to speak on Friday. Her name is Karen Arcos, she is 15 years old, and she is completely blind. She is currently in high school in accelerated classes; she shared an experience about her trigonometry homework! Karen is starting to think about college and has so many accomplishments, and she was kind enough to share her experiences and aspirations with us. She was very charismatic, charming, and funny, and we greatly appreciate her speaking to us.

Anchor Splash® 2008

Anchor Splash® was held on Saturday, September 20th at the LMU Burns Recreation Pool. There were 23 teams that participated, and over 400 people in attendance! Those lucky enough to get in early received free shirts. Anchor Splash® usually brings in about $11,000, but this year, it was an even bigger success, bringing in approximately $15,000 to donate to the Blind Children's Center.  There were over 450 people in attendance including students (both Greek and non-Greek), parents, alumni, faculty, and staff.

Donations

All the money received from parents, alumni, DG members, participants, and supporters is sent to the Delta Gamma Foundation, who sets aside a percent of the money to Service for Sight, our foundation's national philanthropy. The rest of the money goes straight to the BCC. Because of Delta Gamma's contributions last year, they were able to begin a first grade program this September, and with the money from this year they are starting a program for 2nd and 3rd grade! Every penny means the world to the Blind Children's Center and helps their programs to grow in order to meet the needs of so many of the children who need their help, and they are so very thankful to DGs for contributing their time and effort.
